These pictures are of our holidays in Berlin.
This is just outside the Hauptbahnhof,
chilling near the Spree.

beer bear
"Der Bär" is part of a very old city seal and is now symbol of Berlin. You will meet bears throughout the whole city. These are the bears on the Wittenbergerplatz.

berliner dom
Everywhere in the city (re-)construction of buildings is taking place. In the middle the "Berliner dom".

Kreuzberg is the place to be for the young and trendy, a living community of immigrants and artists.

Eating outside in Berlin attracks a lot of sparrows.

In may shops Bierpullen are sold. However in bars, beer is served in glasses. When the weather is good, beer is drunk straight from the bottle.

east side gallery
East side gallery is an international memorial for freedom. It is a long section of the Berlin Wall located in the Mühlenstraße (Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg). The actual border at this point was the river Spree.

"Gedenkmal für die ermordeten juden Eurpas" or Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe also known as the Holocaust Memorial ("Holocaust-Mahnmal") to remind the world of up to six million Jewish victims of the holocaust and to honor them.

Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) can be found in front of houses in the streets of Berlin. These little brass stones bear the names of Jews, gays, Sinti and Roma, who were transported by the Nazis to concentration and work camps. In Berlin, now more than 6000 of these Stolpersteine can be found.

The Sony Center is a multifunctional building located at the Potsdamer Platz. The building houses offices, shops and catering.

Ampelmann is the symbol shown on pedestrian signals in the former East Germany. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Ampelmännchen acquired cult status and became a popular souvenir item in the tourism business.
